LADB Hearing Committees
BENNETT, LANE, 25-DB-022, 07/08/26. Hearing Committee #50 recommended that the court deny the respondent’s petition for reinstatement, disbar him retroactive to the effective date of his prior suspension, and extend his minimum period for readmission by two years or to the maximum allowed under the law. The respondent failed to adequately supervise a nonlawyer employee who engaged in the unauthorized practice of law, attempted to transfer his law practice to another attorney without complying with the rule governing the sale of a law practice, and omitted material information about his businesses, professional licenses, vehicles, rental income, and delinquent tax filings from his reinstatement application. In so doing, the respondent violated Rule 5.3.
FRANKLIN, MAMIE, 26-DB-002, 07/08/26. Hearing Committee #23 recommended that the court suspend the respondent for two years. The respondent trespassed on her neighbors’ property, destroyed survey markers placed by a surveyor the neighbors had hired, and misused the 911 emergency system after police had already responded to the scene, resulting in criminal convictions for trespass, mischief, and property damage. The respondent also failed to cooperate with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel’s investigation into her conduct. In so doing, the respondent violated Rules 8.1(c) and 8.4(b).
